Sustainable Loungewear – What To Look Out For
Over the last year, there has been a notable increase in the popularity of loungewear. But why is this? Well, to be blunt, Covid-19 happened. More people had to stay at home and so lounging around the house all day became the norm and unsurprisingly, people wanted to be comfortable whilst doing so. Although everyone already had tracksuit bottoms and hoodies, people still wanted to remain reasonably fashionable too.
One type of clothing that offered the wearer to be comfortable but also fashionable, was loungewear. But this type of clothing wasn’t really widely available and was viewed more like pyjamas. But the emerging trend of comfortable fashion allowed this type of clothing to grow into one of the biggest fashion trends of the last decade.
Tracksuit bottoms that were traditionally grey or black turned into pastel pinks and blues and matching coloured hoodies were released alongside them. Baggy tops made a comeback and it was acceptable to wear them during the day as opposed to just at night time. It really set the tone for lockdown as being a new way of life.
What types of loungewear clothing items are available?
Before we answer that question, it is probably a good idea to differentiate between loungewear and pyjamas. This is something that many consumers get mixed up with. Sleeping clothes are used solely for the purpose of sleeping. You’re not meant to use loungewear clothing for sleeping (although if you do then there’s no judging!). Loungewear has the purpose of being comfortable for use around the house throughout the day.
Now that’s settled, we can have a look at the different types of clothing items that you can find in this category. As previously mentioned, tracksuit bottoms are a massive part of this domain. They are one of the most common types of loungewear out there and this is no surprise. Being super comfortable, but also appropriate for daily wear (such as when your postman knocks on the door), they are a really versatile item.
You can also find a load of comfortable hoodies and sweatshirts that will not only compliment the rest of your outfit but also how comfortable you will be. You are never quite as comfortable as when you have a pullover top on as well as it helps to keep you extra warm and snuggly, particularly those from sustainable loungewear collections.
If you want more of a well-rounded look than this, then look no further than loungewear. You can even get loungewear as a jumpsuit. Its flowy, loose and lightweight qualities mean that not only will you look put together and ready for any online meeting, but you will also feel super comfy wearing it as well.
Maybe you’re more interested in loungewear that will allow you to get up and go for a run at a moment’s notice? Well, there are plenty of loungewear leggings and shorts for both men and women that also double up for running purposes. This means that when you get back from your gym session or run, you won’t have to worry about getting changed after already being so tired. Instead, you can get home and just slump down onto the sofa and not worry about a thing.
Are any of these items eco-friendly?
Yes, of course! In fact, there are whole businesses that exclusively cater to just making environmentally friendly loungewear. These businesses are passionate about providing high quality, long-lasting sustainable clothing for their customers that of course are also super comfortable.
They are committed to long-term sustainability and have changed the structure of their brand in order to achieve just this. From swapping out non environmentally friendly materials such as polyester to organic cotton, hemp or bamboo and paying all of their workers a fair wage, it is these brands that are leading the example for other brands to follow.
Buying sustainable clothing is a great way to improve your contribution to the long-term prosperity of the earth. Excessive waste, the using and burning of non-renewable resources, unfair labour practices and emitting emissions is all contributing to the irrefutable damage to our environment. By making small changes you will be not only helping the environment, but you will also be helping yourself, your family and your friends too.
